Chazz may well be considered an "Outsider" due to his lack of formal schooling in the arts, but 40 plus years as a sculptor/poet/musician/songwriter leave no doubt that creativity runs hot in his veins.
A welder since high school, Chazz brings a rough beauty to the art of metal sculpture. "I enjoy working with metal. It's brutal and unforgiving, but there is a certain serenity when you are deeply focused on the running of a weld, sparks popping everywhere, and all you can see is the glowing tip of the rod. I usually listen to classical music when creating sculpture. It totally inspires me. I prefer the rough torched edge of metal to the clean-ground look. The way the metal flows creates it's own design, and that is part of my art," says Chazz.
Chazz and his wife, Vivian moved from Western New York to Mount Airy, North Carolina in the summer of 2006, where Chazz became active in the Gallery Group soon after. He continues to create at his new location as Stonehouse Metal Works. His inspiration ranges from the whimsical, to the philosophical, and the political.
A prolific sculptor, Chazz has over 400 works in collections from Ontario, Canada, to the Big Apple, Florida and points west in New Mexico.
