How to Make a Sculpture ArmatureNeed support for your clay sculptures? An armature will do it.

Here's How:Tips:
- Get a piece of plywood. Two-ft. square by 1/2-inch thick.
- Get a galvanized plumbing flange with a 1/2-inch threaded hole.
- Attach the flange to plywood either at corner or midway along one side.
- Attach a two-ft. section of 1/2-inch galvanized threaded pipe to the flange.
- Next, attach a 90 degree angle connector to upright pipe.
- Lastly attach a one and one half-foot section of 1/2-inch pipe to the angle connector.
- Tie copper or aluminum wire onto the end of the one and one half-ft. section of pipe to support your clay sculpture.
- You may want to add more wire to support extended sections of sculpture such as arms or legs.
- Use copper or aluminum wire if sculpting with water based clay. Steel wire will rust.
- If using water based clay be sure to cover work between sessions to keep clay from drying out.
