How to Prepare a Linoleum Block for Printing

Have you ever wanted to make your own block prints? Here's how you do it!

Here's How:

1. Materials: Linoleum block and carving tools.
2. Draw your design same size as the linoleum block. Make a laser print or xerox of it for transfer.
3. Lay copy of drawing face down onto linoleum block and go over with iron to transfer image onto block.
4. Use carving tools to carve away the portions of image that you do NOT want to print.
5. If you plan to do multi-color print, you will need to make a different plate for each color.
   
   

Tips:

1. Be sure to check block for "high spots". Cut them out with carving tool.
2. Remember that the image on the block will be the reverse of printed image!
