- Be sure you have a good portfolio of your work including slides.
- Make sure that the gallery represents artists who work in your medium and style.
- Find out who the curator is.
- Get as much information as you can regarding commissions, fees and contracts.
- Visit gallery in person first to get a "feel" for it.(leave portfolio in car)
- Introduce yourself to curator and staff.
- If gallery "feels" right, leave and visit again at a later date.(After a couple visits people start to recognize you.)
- Now, you leave your business card and make an appointment for interview.
- Be prompt for interview.
- Be prepared with information and a good portfolio.
- Get all information about commissions, fees and what will be expected of you.
- Within several days make a follow-up call.
- Be firm but not pushy.
- Pay attention to details.
- Follow up and be persistent.
